At the Yeosu Expo Art Gallery, the glocal exhibition ‘Flowers in Purgatory’ is catching the attention of citizens.

This exhibition, the first exhibition of this year's Expo Art Gallery, will be held until the 16th of next month and is planned to cross the boundaries of the world and regions to experience the colorful aspects of visual arts.

According to the Expo Art Gallery on the 3rd, the exhibition introduces 33 paintings and sculptures by 4 domestic artists along with 87 photographs by 8 artists participating in the FSA project in the US, who did not ignore the tragedy of history and the pain of reality.

▲Carl Mydans, who is familiar to us as a photographer who recorded the Korean War and the Yeosu-Sun Incident as an artist participating in the FSA project in the United States, ▲Walker Evans, who completed lyrical documentary photography that encompasses people’s emotions, You can directly meet the works of Dorothea Lange, who served as an evangelist and established herself as the most influential photojournalist of the 20th century.

Along with these documentary photos, the works of two veteran artists, Suh Yong-sun and Kang Jong-yeol, who have pioneered a new chapter in history painting by dealing with the tragic events of our history as themes, are also presented.

In addition, with intense colors and unstoppable brushwork, Seo Yong-seon's masterpieces, which deal with the pain of modern Korean history entangled in Jirisan and the tragic death of King Danjong, the 6th king of the Joseon Dynasty, are brought together.

In addition, the modern history of the Yeosu area will be illuminated again through the masterpiece of Kang Jong-yeol, who internalized the swirling passion and sorrow of the Yeosu-Sun Incident and sublimated it into symbolist art through landscapes.

In addition to these artistic attempts to reflect on the past, experimental works by middle-aged artists staring at the present reality are added to confirm the solid stratum of contemporary art.

In addition, the overwhelming paintings and sculptures of Park Chi-ho, who has developed ontological thoughts beyond anguish and pain through the fragmented human body, exert the power to reflect on human beings.

In addition, witnessing the empathy for the ruined land and the pain of neighbors permeating the canvas of Park Dong-hwa, who has been immersed in landscape work for a long time, paintings that make him willingly join his gaze are displayed.

Meanwhile, the Expo Art Gallery is open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on weekdays and weekends, and is closed on Mondays.
